Takeover of Baker Tilly Spiess SA in Geneva

As part of Grant Thornton Switzerland/Liechtenstein’s growth strategy, the takeo-ver of Baker Tilly Spiess SA in Geneva represents another milestone in the firm’s history.

On 1 January 2019 Grant Thornton Switzerland/Liechtenstein is to take over Baker Tilly Spiess SA in Geneva, and can thereby significantly strengthen its market position. With the takeover in the New Year the number of employees will increase to around 200.

This merger will enable Grant Thornton Switzerland/Liechtenstein to effectively expand its market coverage in Western Switzerland. Over the last 25 years Baker Tilly Spiess SA has steadily established itself in the French-speaking part of Switzerland with its services in the audit, tax and financial sectors, and is therefore ideally positioned to supplement Grant Thornton Switzerland/Liechtenstein’s service portfolio.

And for Baker Tilly Spiess SA, the merger with the Grant Thornton network gives it a stronger position in Switzerland and, for clients domiciled in Western Switzerland, will in the future enable it to provide an optimum service in German-speaking Switzerland and internationally.Grant Thornton Switzerland/Liechtenstein operates from 3 locations in Switzerland and a registered office in Liechtenstein, and is therefore the ideal partner.

Patrick Hilty, CEO of Grant Thornton Switzerland/Liechtenstein, says: “We are delighted about this excellent merger and are convinced that overall, with combined forces, we can further enhance our market position. With the expansion of the service sectors which Baker Tilly Spiess SA provides, we can offer our clients – particularly those in the French-speaking part of Switzerland – even better services, on-the-spot and specifically targeted to their needs.”

Dominik Spiess, CEO of Baker Tilly Spiess SA, is also pleased about the positive association of the two firms: “I am excited that with Grant Thornton we have at our disposal a strong network, both in Switzerland and internationally. We are creating a win-win situation for everyone and can benefit from an enormous volume of synergies. This is a great opportunity, particularly for our clients and employees.Through its local business connections, Grant Thornton Switzerland/Liechtenstein has a broad market coverage and is at the same time part of the international network of Grant Thornton International Ltd, ensuring coverage beyond national borders. In the present constantly changing market environment, with many challenges also facing cross-border business, highly qualified experts in countries around the globe represent a great competitive advantage. In all respects, Grant Thornton provides us with the ideal conditions for the merger.”
