In the Finance Forum Zürich special edition of the Handelszeitung of 26 June 2025, Fabian Schmid, Head of Regulatory & Compliance Financial Services, analyzes current developments in the Swiss financial market. He explains why Switzerland is well positioned from a regulatory perspective yet still faces important reform needs.

The focus is not limited to discussions around increased capital requirements for systemically important banks. Structural and technological issues are becoming increasingly relevant: smaller institutions face growing pressure from expanding reporting obligations. At the same time, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence raise new questions around integration and regulatory oversight. In addition, the individual accountability of senior managers is moving further into the spotlight.

Fabian Schmid outlines how the regulatory framework can be further developed to ensure both financial stability and innovation capacity. One thing is clear: the right strategic decisions must be made now to secure the future of Switzerland as a competitive financial centre.
